Overview

The Kanchenjunga Trek is one of the unexplored superb adventures, marvelous and irregular touristic trekking region in Nepal. This trek approaches to the south and north Base Camp of the third highest peak on the planet, Mt. Kanchenjunga with an elevation of 8586m and geographically located along the Nepal India border in the Himalayas. Mt. Kanchenjunga is regarded as one of the most challenging peak to climb. Until 1852, Kanchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world. This trek can boast of varied ecological zones, from the subtropical land to glacial wilderness. Mighty Kanchenjunga glacier is the most famous attraction of Kanchenjunga. Great valleys, encircled by high peaks, are another feature of Kanchenjunga.

The Kanchenjunga trek has been described by many people as the finest trekking route in Nepal since It is a long trek going deep into the remote mountain ranges on Nepal’s border with Sikkim and Tibet. The trail explores the area around Kanchenjunga where you can see a wide range of scenery from lush, tropical jungle through to rhododendron, chestnut and oak forests and then at higher altitudes into the alpine zone. You can see a range of Nepalese culture and life-style from Rai and Limbos to Tibetan Buddhist villages.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative and driver meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designed hotel. The representative will help you check into your hotel. At the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The Kathmandu valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. In the morning after having breakfast, you will be guided to visit famous and biggest Hindus Pashupatinath temple, Buddha stupa, Swoyambhunath and in the afternoon having lunch you will visit Kathmandu durbar square and Patan durbar square.

Day 03: Fly to Biratnagar

This day after having breakfast, you have a flight to Biratnagar. When you are in aircraft you can enjoy by seeing the panoramic sights of great Himalayas of Nepal including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt, Makalu (8,463m), Mt, Cho Oyu (8153m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m) and Mt. Lhotse Shar (8,393m),Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, Ganesh, Langtang etc. On reaching Biratnagar you make all the preparations for the forthcoming journey.

Day 04: Fly to Suketar & trek to Lali Kharka

This day, you have a short 30-40 minute flight to Sukhetar. After getting Sukhetar you will hike around the Sukhetar village and after refreshment, you head to Lali Kharka with the trekking crew. On the trails, you walk by rich pastures and pristine settlements. After several descents for 2-3 hours, you will arrive at Lali Kharka.

Day 05: Trek to Keswa

This morning, from your camp, you will see the entire day's walk in front of us. After traversing the hillside for a short distance, you will descend to the village of Pokara on the Phawa Khola and cross a suspension bridge before beginning the steep climb towards Kunjari. The afternoon's walk then takes you up over the crest of the ridge to your campsite at Keswa. From here, you get your first views of Mt Kanchenjunga along with Mt Yulung and other Himalayas.

Day 06: Trek to Mamanke

From Keswa you trek through pleasant terraced fields and traverse a steep mountainside high above the Kabeli Khola and then you will cross several villages like Funfun and continue along a shady path to Apan.  During today’s trekking you get your first distant views of Jannu (7710m), one of the most impressive peaks in the region. Eventually we reach the prosperous village of Mamanke.

Day 07: Trek to Yamphudin

After having breakfast in the early morning at the camp, your trek begins with an easy climb towards to Yamphudin. The trail goes through hillside above the Kabeli Khola, ridges and streambeds. Along the way, you can stop to bathe in one of the many clear pools in this beautiful river, It is a peaceful and then you will reach Yamphudin which is most remote settlement in this region.

Day 08: Trek to Lamite jungle camp

Leaving Yamphudin, the trail ascends to cross the Omje Khola. You will walk through a beautiful and dense forest and you have fine views of the valley beyond Yamphudin to the south and of the Omje Khola Valley and Deorali Danda to the north. A steep descent to the river brings you to your campsite in Lamite forest.

Day 09: Trek to Torontan

From your Lamite Jungle camp, you will ascend steeply for 3 hours through dense forest to the crest of the Deorali Danda which is best destination for Mt. Jannu and then you descend to the valley of Simbua Khola and after crossing the bridge you will get Torontan.

Day 10:  Trek to Tseram

In the early morning after having breakfast at camp, you will follow the path of right ank of the river and the path passes through the pine and rhododendron forests then you have a steep climb to reach the Tseram where you can see stunning views of snow capped Himalayas and massive muzzle of Yalung glacier.

Day 11: Trek to Ramche

Today you have a short walk in relation to other days. You will move ahead to your final destination at. As you ascend you have clear views of Yalung glaciers, series of ablation valley, Kokthan, Rothong and Kabru are the highlights of today’s walk.

Day 12: Ramche - Exploration

Today is a rest day at Ramche. You can hike around the Ramche. If you hike around the Ramche, you can see your first close encounter with Kanchenjunga, Khumbakarna Glacier flowing from the east face of Jannu and then you will return to your camp at Ramche.

Day 13: Trekking beyond the Mirgin La

Leaving your Ramche campsite, you trek down the valley, passing the small settlement of Lapsang, before turning off towards the Mirgin La - the pass you must cross in order to reach Gunsa and the north side of Kanchenjunga. As you descend from the Mirgin La the views of Mt Jannu is simply magnificent

Day 14: Trek to Gunsa

This day you have a steep descent but easy from your campsite that brings you to Lamba Sumba Kharka where there are more splendid views of the awesome southwest face of Jannu. The trail is descending on an excellent trail to the village of Gunsa.

Day 15: Trek to Khambachen

Today you will ascend gently by passing beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, many Mani walls and chortens, Rampak Kharka and then you start to climb before descending to the summer village of Khambachen. From the villages you can enjoy the panorama of Mt Jannu or Khumbakarna.

Day 16: Trek to Lhonak

From Khambachen the trek goes up to Lhonak via Ramtang village where summit of Wedge peak will be visible. You can walk on the trail easily enjoying with the breathtaking views of the valley and mountains despite the increase in altitude. On the way you will get the views of Nepal Peak, Twins peak, mera and the white wave. Finally you will reach Lhonak getting fun with the scenery on the way.

Day 17:  Trek to Pang Pema

This day you will go ahead towards Pang Pema. You will go through the moraine before finally reaching Pang Pema (the North Face Base Camp), which is directly opposite to the north face of Kanchenjunga. Pang Pema is one of the most spectacular places in the world.

Day 19: Exploration Kanchenjunga Base Camp and trek to Lhonak

In the early morning after having breakfast, you move towards the North Base Camp (5280m) to Lhonak and it takes approximately six hours. Here you can enjoy the snow capped mountains and Kanchenjunga glacier. There are gorges of mountain glacier from water flows all the time. During the middle of the day, the scene of falling avalanches captivates you completely.

Day 20: Trek to Gunsa

From Lhonak you will trek to Gunsa which takes around seven hours. The trails follow s the descending path crossing the jungle along the river Khambachen River. Somewhere you can see the Mani walls and prayer flags hanging over the tree. Finally you will reach Gunsa.

Day 21: Trek to Kyapra

From Gunsa, you will trek up to Kyapra that passes through the beautiful Gunsa and Tamur Kholas, spectacular forests of rhododendron, conifer, birch and oak. The valley sides here are steep and the trail follows the river as it cascades downwards. You pass through Kyapra, the last of the Tibetan villages.

Day 22: Trek to Sakathum

Heading for the village of Sakathum, your route follows an undulating trail for the first couple of hours until you reach Amjilasa. From here, there is a long steep descent from which you can see the Gunsa Khola Valley stretched out before you.

Day 23: Trek to Chirwa

Leaving Sakathum, you will head to Chirwa. On the way to Chirwa you meet the confluence of two rivers, Simbua Khola and Gunsa Khola at Tamur Kosi. On following the trail along Tamur khola, many other small tributary streams come our way. After trekking for about 4-5 hours you enter the pristine village of Chirwa.

Day 24: Trek to Phurumba

 This day you follow the path to Phurumba by crossing the cultivated land and rich pastures. Then your trail zigzags through the path of steep stones. After climbing for about 4 hours you come to the valley of Phurumba.

Day 25: Trek to Taplejung - Suketar

From the Phurumba, you will move towards to Taplejung village by following ascending path for about 3 hours. After reaching Taplejung village you see village life, cultural richness, and custom and village people. Thereafter, after leisurely ascents for about 2 hour, you finally reach the airstrip at Suketar where you will conclude the trip of the day.

Day 26: Fly to Biratnagar and fly to Kathmandu via Biratnagar

In the early morning you fly to Biratnagar and then you will fly back to Kathmandu. At the Kathmandu airport, your guide will transfer to the designed hotel. In the evening you have free time for refreshment and shopping etc.

Day 27: Depart Kathmandu

After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take to the airport for your flight home. Or if you want to stay longer for short tours i.e. National parks, rafting, and mountain biking, hiking, etc. do not forget to ask us.
