Overview

The Gokyo, Chola pass, Kalapattar Everest Base Camp Trek is one the most famous trek in Khumbu region. This trek  gives an awesome experience in the high Himalaya region so, it is getting its popularity day by day due to it covers the overall and major attraction points of Khumbu region like Lukla- the airstrip, Namche- the major trading village in Khumbu region, KalaPathar, Everest Base Camp, Chola pass, Gokyo Lake, Thyangboche and so on.

The world’s highest peak Mt. Everest is also located in this region. The trail gives outstanding and breathtaking views of world’s top because four of the world’s eight highest peaks i.e. Cho Oyu (8201m), Makalu (8463m), Lhotse (8516 m) and Everest (8850m). Apart from mountains, there are many glaciers, lake, rivers, forests and its flora and fauna; waterfalls; landscapes and several traditional villages are other attraction of this trek. Besides the natural phenomenon and property this trekking trail is also rich in socio – cultural factors. The Khumbu area is mostly inhabitated by Sherpa people and their friendly and hospitable behaviors, their religion and festivals, culture, tradition, life style, rituals really attraction trekkers mind and eyes. Trekkers can study about the traditional Sherpa village and their history.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative and driver meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designed hotel. The representative will help you check into your hotel. At the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities.

Day 02: Sightseeing at Kathmandu valley
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The Kathmandu valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. In the morning after having breakfast, you will be guided to visit famous and biggest Hindus Pashupatinath temple, Buddha stupa, Swoyambhunath and in the afternoon having lunch you will visit Kathmandu durbar square and Patan durbar square.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu Lukla and trek to Phakding
This day after having breakfast, you have a flight to Lukla and a landing on a steep mountain runway brings us to the start of your trek at the village of Lukla [2850m]. When you are in aircraft you can enjoy by seeing the panoramic sights of great Himalayas of Nepal including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt, Makalu (8,463m), Mt, Cho Oyu (8153m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m) and Mt. Lhotse Shar (8,393m),Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, Ganesh, Langtang etc.   After landing at Lukla you head up the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well-marked trail and you will be accommodated at local lodge.

Day 04: - Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Leaving Phakding, you will cross and re-cross the river on high suspension bridges, Monjo- the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set-up in order to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment. You follow the path to get Namche which is the major trading village in Khumbu region. If the weather is clear, you get the first glimpse of Mt Everest.

Day 05: Rest day at Namche Bazaar
Today is rest day. You will spend your entire day in Namche by taking complete rest as acclimatization to gain altitude, planning for forthcoming trips and getting habituated to your trekking destinations. To acclimatize, you visit Khunde Hospital which was  set up by Sir Edmund Hillary, Everest view Hotel for sunset views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Phortse Thanga
From Namche you will trek up to Phortse which is the old Sherpa village along with Bhote Koshi river valley and by passing the Khumjung and Thame. On the way you can see many Tibetan nomads with hundred of Yak caravan trading goods to Namche.

,the traditions and cultures of local communities. Besides this you can see very nice views of Himalayan Mountains. From Tengboche we can see Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Nuptse, Mount Ama Dablam etc.

Day 07: Phortse Thanga to Dole

To help with acclimatization, the time spent trekking today is short. The trail first climbs steeply out of the valley through beautiful rhododendron forests. You then pass a herders’ hut then climb to Dole.

Day 08: Dole to Machhermo
The trail climbs steeply to a single lodge at Lhabarma. You will pass the small settlement of Luza and continue to climb along the side of the valley high above the river to Machhermo.

Day 09: Machhermo to Gokyo

From the Machhermo you will follow the path to Gokyo. The trail climbs a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kantega and upwards to Cho Oyu. Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail reaches the small village of Pangka, Nilibuk. And then you will reach ridge to the first small lake, Longponga and second lake Tauja and finally you climb up a boulder strewn path to Gokyo. Gokyo is a collection of stone houses and walled pastures on the shores of a large lake known as Dudh Pokhari.

Day 10: Gokyo – Gokyo Ri- Gokyo
The views around Gokyo are tremendous. For the best views we will climb Gokyo Ri (5483m). From here you will have a panoramic view of Cho Oyu, Gyanchung Kang, Everest, Lothse, Makalu, Cholatse and Tawachee before returning to Gokyo village.

Day 11: Gokyo – Thangna
You will cross the Gokyo glacier making your way to go down to the village of Thangna, situated at the shore of the Ngozumpa Glacier.

Day 12: Thangna - Dzongla via Chola pass
The pass is not difficult but it is steep and involves a glacier crossing and takes about 5 and half hours. There’s a slight ascent along the valley towards Chola pass which most of the time is covered in blue ice. From here you can enjoy the panoramic views of various mountains before the trail descends all the way to Dzongla.

Day 13: Dzongla to Lobuche
From this route both Pheriche and Dhugla are visible as well as good mountain views. It takes about 4 and half hours and on the way you can see Dughla Lake.

Day 14: - Lobuche - Gorak Shep - Everest base camp - Gorak Shep
Your last destination for today is Gorak Shep. To reach Gorak Shep you will pass Kala Pattar and Khumbu glaciers, superb views of surrounding mountains. After about 3 hours of walking you will reach Gorak Shep which is the base for Everest Base Camp.

Day 15: Gorak Shep -KalaPathar-Pheriche 
In the Early morning, you will start hike up to KalaPathar to catch the most wonderful sunrise views of the Mt.Everest. Besides that you have and excellent views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and Ama Dablam along with the entire mountain views of Khumbu Himalayan range.

Day 16:  Pheriche - Phortse 
You will visit an old Monastery, walking alongside a steep with good views of Ama Dablam and the Tengboche monastery. Phortse is a good place to see the Musk dear and national birds of Dhaphe which have 9 colours.

Day 17: Phortse –Khumjung - Namche 
You will walk through beautiful rhododendron, birch and willow forests and cross the Dudkosi River, up hill to Mong La (4020m). This is a good viewpoint then we walk to Khumjung village and down to Namche Bazaar for an over night.

Day 18: Namche Bazaar to Lukla
This is your final day’s trek which follow the path to Dudh Koshi to reach Lukla. After reaching Lukla in the evening, you have a time to enjoy with Sherpa guides and porters by taking local drinks.

Day 19: Fly to Kathmandu

After having breakfast you can check in the airport to fly back to Kathmandu. At the Kathmandu airport, your guide will transfer to the designed hotel. In the evening you have free time for refreshment and shopping etc.

Day 20: Depart Kathmandu
After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take to the airport for your flight home. Or if you want to stay longer for short tours i.e. National parks, rafting, and mountain biking, hiking, etc. do not forget to ask us.
